COME Monday and a favourite go to place for art lovers opens its doors.
Windermere Art Society stages its annual showcase (its 39th) at the Ladyholme Centre, on Lake Road, from August 5-17, with scores of great pieces of art on display. Four years ago the society lost its long standing president Colin Heighton. Following his death the family donated a large sum of money as an endowment to encourage young artists. As a result, WAS holds the Colin Heighton Memorial Young Artists Award each year, open to 15-17 year olds in full time education. First prize for best artwork is £100 with £50 for the two runners up, plus art vouchers and free membership of the society. Other awards up for grabs at 'Tate Windermere' include the Robin Lowry Memorial Cup for best in show and the people's choice, Chairmans Cup.
Open 10.30am-5.30pm.
