POP star Robbie Williams lined up on the red carpet for a glittering awards night, but this time the cameras were not focusing on him.

Instead the A-lister turned the attention of millions of TV viewers to inspirational Ulverston teenager Alice Pyne.

Alice, who has terminal cancer, was held up as a star for her work to support other cancer sufferers as she was presented with the Teen-ager of Courage Award, at the Pride of Britain bash, in London.

A tearful audience heard of her ongoing battle to raise awareness of the need for bone marrow donors to support others with cancer, and her online bucket list.

The 16-year-old said she was ‘terrified’ of appearing before a celebrity audience which included film star Pierce Brosnan, TV person-ality Holly Willoughby, and UK Olympic diving hero Tom Daley.

Presenting the award, Robbie told her: “You are an absolute inspiration. To turn a negative into such a pos-itive, you are a very, very special human being.”

After the awards night, Alice told The Westmorland Gazette: “Everywhere I look-ed there were famous people that I only know from the television.

“But they were all coming up to tell me how proud they were off me, and what an inspiration I was. I felt very special.

“I feel really lucky to have such an amazing family around me and I was proud of Milly (Alice’s sister), as she helped me walk on stage and supported me even though she was nervous too.”She added: “I had an amaz-ing time. I was terrified when we arrived because there seemed to be millions of people there, all cheering and taking photographs.

“I was so surprised when Robbie Williams came out to present my award. I met him last year, but it was good to see him last night as I got to spend some one-to-one time with him. “He has invited me and my family to go along to his show next month and meet up again, so I’m really exc-ited about that.

“I sat next to Holly Will-oughby and she was so sweet and really helped to calm my nerves, “I was terrified before I went on stage.

“After I received my award, mum was approached by a gentleman who asked if he could congratulate her daughters. It took us a minute to realise it was Pierce Brosnan.

“He was so lovely with us and I really enjoyed meeting him.”

Alice is now in Surrey, on a drugs trial to help combat the terminal Hodgkin’s lym-phoma she has battled since 2008. She said she was en-joying a low profile after the over-whelming awards night, but missed her two dogs.
