THE second South Lakes Ladies Race Day will be held at The Old England Hotel, Bowness, on June 20, with all proceeds shared between Cancer Care, St John’s Hospice and the Anthony Nolan Trust.

Event organiser Jill Santamera, who was born in Windermere, has raised more than £60,000 for charity following her own diagnosis and subsequent recovery from Cancer 10 years ago “When I began fund-raising, it was my way of giving back after I received such wonderful care and support from my local community.” she said. “What started as a charity event has now developed into a community event.

“There is so much support and help given from people in the South Lakes. In addition to raising much needed funds and awareness for very worthy organisations, a further objective of this event is to bring together women from all walks of life and living within the local area.”

The inaugural Ladies Race Day in 2011 raised more than £6,500.

Tickets for The Yorkshire Building Society sponsored event cost £40 and include lunch provided by The Old England, a glass of bubbly, live music, races on big screen TV’s from Ladies Day at Ascot and entertainment.
