CUMBRIA narrowly lost at home in a very evenly-matched game by nine shots on Sunday at Levens BC.

The fast paced and tricky green very nearly gave Cumbria a home leg win against a star studded South Yorkshire team.

On the away leg Cumbria managed two winners, but lost by 67 despite a good showing by all.

AS THE Kendal and District Bowling season progresses teams established their form with the best this week in Division One coming from fourth placed Windermere A against struggling Staveley A.

Windermere A won 10-0 to keep their home record in tack.

Eighth place Crosthwaite A also remain unbeaten at home after an 8-2 success against Netherfield B.

In Division Two top team Burneside A received their first home defeat from second place Lindale A 3-7.

However third place Burton failed to capitalise as they lost away at Ambleside A 8-2 and fourth place Lower Holker also lost away at Milnthorpe B.

WITH a third of the Rothay Bowling League season completed Division One leaders Levens A remain unbeaten and must be favourites to win the league since their latest 9-1 victory at Crosthwaite.

The battle for the runners-up spot is more exciting with Staveley A, Coniston A and Leven Valley B all in contention after winning last time out.

There is a familiar look to the Second Division with Lindale unbeaten and holding a 10-point advantage over the remaining teams.

In second place, Ambleside B recorded an excellent 10-0 win to bounce back from a 10-0 defeat in the previous week.

Both of the Allithwaite teams are locked together in third and fourth.

WARTON A, KA Hale and Lower Holker A all won their matches 7-1, meaning Warton A now have a six-point lead over Netherfield A.

Lower Holker A and KA Hale are in joint fourth place with 35 points.

In Division Two there were also three teams who won 7-1, with Warton B, Springfield A, and Crosthwaite A the victors.

LOWER Holker Open Mixed Pairs competition on Sunday was won by Colin and Ann Slinger from Burneside.

They beat Bill and Lorraine Keating from Lindale 21-19 in a closely contested final.

The losing semi-finalists were John Gill and partner Christine from Barrow, who lost to the winners, and Barry and Denise Rigg from Kirkby-in-Furness.
