MAKING a change from external galas, Kendal swimmers turned their attention to some of their own club championships being held at the Lakes Leisure Centre.

Opening with the 100m butterfly, Emily Reay was in dominant form.

First she took the ladies title with a fair degree of ease, leaving Lucy Bradbury and Ella Mounsey battling it out for the minor places.

Bradbury managed to prevail, taking silver with the up and coming Mounsey picking up bronze.

Reay then took another trophy with a comfortable win in the Girls U/14yrs event.

Megan Jones drove her way to the silver medal spot and Zoe Webster took bronze.

An impressive swim from Nicholas Carlton brought him a clear win over Harry Denney, with Christopher Stainton collecting bronze.

Stainton then produced a marvellous effort to outstrip Ollie Sargeant and Gregor Fletcher for the Boys U/14yrs title.

Then came the turn of the younger swimmers with the heats of the U/10yrs Championships 25m breaststroke leg.

The girls lined up and it was Skye Hunterdale who set the tempo and in a storming finish managed to hold off the challenge of Lucy Sargeant and Megan Bascombe.

The boys final proved even closer with Elliot Woodburn and Jacob Klijn becoming involved in a real battle.

In a final burst for the finish Woodburn just got the winning touch from Klijn with Alex Tallon in third place.

Then into the mix came a distance event and the race of the evening with Reay battling it out with Laura Garrick for the 200m backstroke title.

Shoulder to shoulder they challenged for victory and it was only a final burst in the last few metres that gave Reay her third trophy of the evening, leaving Garrick to take silver and Ruby Vernon the bronze.

The Gents Championship brought another comfortable win for Carlton while Denney held off the strong challenges of Daniel Armstrong to snatch silver.

A series of heats brought out the declared winners of the U/12yrs 100m Individual Medley Championships.

The all round skills of Megan Jones gave her an outstanding win over Josie Johnson and Erin Bagge while Sargeant produced a similar performance to run away with the boys title ahead of James Sanders and Ruben Swallow in the minor places.
