OLYMPIC gold medallist Joanna Rowsell (Wiggle Honda Women's Pro Cycling Team) averaged close to a sizzling 30mph to be fastest lady in Saturday evening's open 10 miles time trial on the Levens course.

The blustery conditions did little to slow the reowned track star, whose time of 20 minutes 39 seconds was more than two minutes quicker than that of national women's hill climb champion Lynn Hamel (Herbalife Leisure Lakes Bikes) from Kendal, who herself clocked 22.19.

Fastest overall rider in Lancaster CC's Cyril Dixon Memorial event was Bolton-le-Sands based James Gullen (Hope Factory Racing) in 19.36, and John Ingham (Kent Valley RC) was the fastest veteran over 50 in 22.11.

Other leading local times were: Andrew Barlow (KV) 22.45; and KV duo Tim Bennett and Glenn Howarth, both 24.25.

Barrow Central Wheelers Colin McKenna and Jon Evans finished fourth and fifth respectively in Sunday's Border City Wheelers 50 miles time trial beside Bassenthwaite Lake.

They clocked 1:53.12 and 1:53.33 in an event won by Ilkley CC's Ged Millward in 1:50.44. Phil Shaw (Lancaster CC) from Yealand rode 2:03.04.

Guest rider David Allenby (Cleveleys RC) won Kent Valley’s latest midweek 10 in 22.40 after the planned club championship 25 on the Levens course had to be postponed because of lane closures on the A590.

Fastest KV rider was fast improving Paul Singleton in 24.14. Judith Irving was fastest woman in 26.14.

Monday’s Old Hutton Circuit hilly time trial was another triumph for John Ingham in 21.50 ahead of Andrew Barlow on 22.00 and Stewart Mounsey on 22.35.
