KENDAL captain Chris Miller has resigned as captain of the club following the club’s struggles this season.

Vice-captain Stu Parkin will now step up to the role for this Saturday’s trip to Chorley as well as for the rest of the season.

Miller cited a struggle with injury and form as the reason for his decision to step down after two and a half years as captain, time which included winning the Readers Cup last year.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time as captain and it’s obviously a privilege to captain your home club,” said Miller.

“It’s been great to achieve the success we have over the years.

“But i’m stepping down because of a bit of loss of my own form and injury problems, so I feel it’s the right time to let someone else have a go at captaincy and concentrate on my own performance.”

New incumbent Stu Parkin said he is looking forward to the challenge, and still believes his team can reach the top four in the table.

“I’m a Kendal lad through and through and I’ve been here since I was 13 so I’m excited.

“It’s quite daunting as well but we still have plenty to play for.

“All credit goes to Chris and the job he has done - he felt he couldn’t give it 100 per cent because of his own injuries so he’s decided to take a step back and I’m looking forward to getting the old Chris back.”

Meanwhile, Alex Doolan returns for the trip to Chorley, but when he is due to leave for international duty again in mid-July, Parkin says his side will be looking for a new pro for the rest of the season.

Parkin said: “We’re looking for a more long-term approach so after the next couple of games that’ll probably be it in terms of Doolan being professional.

“It was a risk taking him on but it’s one of those things and we will learn from what has happened this season.”

Meanwhile, Netherfield captain Marc Brown was delighted with his side’s victory over Kendal in the Twenty20 on Friday night, and he believes his in-form side can win Twenty20 Finals day at Parkside Road a week on Sunday.

“I was absolutely delighted with Friday night, it was very convincing and I’ve been very happy with what we’ve done in the T20 this season,” said Brown.

“We’ve really bought into the competition on and off the pitch and we’re really looking forward to finals day.”

Netherfield’s in-form opener Ben Barrow will miss their home tie against St Annes on Saturday as he is at his sister’s wedding.

“Last year when I was playing well I went to Las Vegas and when I came back things went a bit pear-shaped, so I really hope the same doesn’t happen for Ben when he returns!” added Brown.
