HUNDREDS of people flocked to Walthwaite Meadow, Chapel Stile, on Sunday to enjoy some fun in the sun at Langdale Gala.

The event was resurrected last year when a new gala committee was formed and the 2012 festivities proved to be a great success despite heavy rain.

“I think there isn’t enough of these sort of events that go on in our area,” said Claire Ives, one of the organisers. “The older people of our community have done their part for many years and have always supported the gala.

“Me and my sister Rebecca didn’t want to see it come to an end, and so we decided to try to keep it going and it went really well for us.

“The whole day was a massive success and was by far the busiest gala we have had in Langdale. The weather helped tremendously.”

There was a Queen’s parade, fancy dress parade, pet show, Cumberland and Westmorland wrestling and children’s races for the crowds to enjoy. The Gala Queen was Isobel Kelly of Langdale Primary School and musical entertainment was provided by the Kookaburras.
