IT is a well-known fact that women wear the trouser in most things these days (says me) and now we’re doing it quite literally too.
After Angelina Jolie rocked the Baftas red carpet in a tuxedo alongside Brad Pitt, it seems that everyone from Cara Delevingne to Joan Collins is rocking this trend.
Trouser suits have featured heavily on the catwalks of New York, Milan, Paris and London and for us mere mortals who can’t afford Armani and Jasper Coran, the High Street is offering tuxedo’s, crisp white shirts and suit jackets to make sure we can compete with the A-listers.
Don’t be afraid, this androgynous dressing does not mean you have to look manly; this masculine style can still look chic and sexy.
And the trend is by no means new. Back in 1996 Yves Saint-Laurent introduced his Le Smoking, an evening pantsuit for women that mimicked a man's tuxedo, firmly putting the trend on the fashion map.
I know, at £100, this tailored suit from Topshop is expensive but the jacket (£65) can be worn with anything from skinny jeans to cocktail dresses and equally the trousers (£35) can be worn with a slogan t-shirt and little pumps.
These turn-up cigarette pants (£35) and black blazer (£65) from Topshop would be another versatile suit that styled with a pair of black brogues you could wear at work, or equally dress up with some patent heels and you will be ready to paint the town red.
So go find your very own Brad Pitt, get suited and booted and ready to rock!
