CUMBRIA is one of the top ten areas of the UK where local people are most likely to buy and take ownership of key local assets, from pubs and breweries to village shops and windfarms.

Figures released by Co-operatives UK as part of Co-operatives Fortnight, which ends on Saturday, show that 2,200 people in Cumbria have invested a total of £1.8 million in nine community share schemes in the county.

They include Witherslack Community Shop Ltd and Storth Community Co-operative Ltd in South Lakeland and Lyvenett Community Pub Ltd in Eden
