LOCALS and tourists visiting one of the Lake District’s most popular lakes were treated to an unusual view on their stroll around the shore - a floating bedroom.

A king-sized bed dressed in bright red bedding, complete with bedside tables, lamps, scatter cushions, a throw and even a continental breakfast tray were recently spotted bobbing on Derwentwater.

The pop-up bedroom was created by holiday cottage lettings agency Sally’s Cottages to encourage visitors to take a break away from their day-to-day responsibilities and escape to the peace and tranquility of the Lake District.

The activity was led by the owner of Sally’s Cottages, Sally Fielding, who settled in to her new bedroom to catch up on some reading and take time out from her busy schedule.

The 40-year-old mum of three said: “The Lake District has so many beautiful qualities; peaceful lakes, fresh air, stunning views and wonderful walks making it the ideal destination for a relaxing and revitalising holiday.

“We hoped it would be an eye-catching way to celebrate the magic of the Lakes and it was fantastic to see the surprised reaction from all the people passing by in their canoes and standing on the jetties.

“Derwentwater is one of our most treasured lakes and a tourist favourite thanks to its central location in Keswick so where better to showcase our room with a view.”
