ORGANISERS of the first Taste Cumbria Christmas festival say the weather won’t spoil the fun in Ulverston this weekend.

Two packed days of attractions are planned for Saturday and Sunday and, though many of the activities will be moved indoors away from the rain, there’ll still be plenty going on.

Visitors will still be able to enjoy the giant snow globe, visit Santa’s Grotto, see live music and street entertainers, and shop at the wealth of local businesses.

A decision will be taken at 9am on Saturday morning as to the location of the traders’ market to ensure stallholders are safe if the weather is wet and windy.

Visitors are asked to check the Taste Cumbria Facebook and Twitter pages for the latest information.

There’s more to the Taste Cumbria festival than just food.

The weekend will also see the launch of a new beer by the Ulverston Brewing Company, and the first in a series of community talks, as well as a treasure hunt with a £250 cash prize.

The Market Hall will also be open on both days, along with shops throughout the town, so visitors will have the chance to buy everything they want for the festive season.

Where to find everything:

  • The snow globe will be at the Sun Inn in Market Street on Saturday and Sunday
  • Santa’s grotto will be in the Laurel and Hardy Museum in Brogden Street on Saturday and in the Market Hall on Sunday
  • The Ulverston-based Bread and Butter Theatre Company will be taking their Carol Singing Christmas Crackers and the Christmas Elves around town

There’ll be live music in and around New Market Street and at the Sun Inn on both days.

Festival organiser Marie Whitehead, Director of CN Events, said: “Mother Nature obviously didn’t get the memo so the weather forecast’s pretty rubbish for Saturday though looking loads better on Sunday. Whatever happens, we’ll make sure there’s plenty going on in Ulverston this weekend.

“We need to make sure everyone is safe if it is windy, which is why we’ve moved as many attractions as we can indoors. You won’t want to miss the giant snow globe, or the chance to pick up all your Christmas treats and food from some great Cumbrian businesses, so please come and join us at the weekend. We’ll make it as big a foodie extravaganza as we can!”
