A special summit is to be held in Cumbria where health experts will share and generate ideas that could lead to innovation to improve health and social care.

Two hundred people are set to attend the World Health Innovation Summit at the Old Fire Station in Carlisle on March 10 and 11.

Speakers will include high-ranking health chiefs from across the country.

"There is always room for improvement in health care - innovation will be a key part of the future of health and social care, and this summit provides that platform," said Gareth Presch, the former Chief Officer of the National Haemophilia Council of Ireland, who lives in Cumbria and who has organised the event.

"We must all work together. Funds and resources in health care are tight, and it was this knowledge that led to the concept of the World Health Innovation Summit.

"The summit aims to bring people together to share knowledge and life experiences so the community can benefit, in the areas of disability, children, adolescents and beyond. How we use IT and social media will become important support tools, and it is hoped this is an area that can also be developed at the summit. If successful, it will not only change things for today, but for tomorrow and generations to come.

"The intention is to run a similar event each year in Cumbria."

World Health Innovation Summit is a social enterprise community interest company. In addition to the event in Carlisle, the organisation supports local communities and has worked with Kendal Organ Town to help promote its campaign.
