KENDAL put in a dominant display against bottom-of-the-table New Mills and ran out deserving 3-0 winners at the Pye Motors Stadium.

Right from the off Kendal were much better in possession than their opponents, stringing together a succession of one and two touch passes that consistently threatened to expose the New Mills back line.

It did not take long to break the deadlock - with just 11 minutes on the clock Barrow loanee Alex Newby played a delightful one-two with Danny Forbes on the edge of the box, receiving the return ball and holding off two defenders before confidently striking the ball past goalkeeper Oliver Martin.

New Mills relentlessly gave the ball away as they struggled to keep possession long enough to mount a meaningful attack.

Kendal's centre back, Joe Robson, is on loan from Carlisle and showed his technical qualities throughout.

Several times Robson won the ball inside his own box and was composed enough to take a few touches, beat a player and pick his pass.

On 26 minutes the lively Newby could have had another.

The ball was worked to the left wing where Ben Thomas consistently found himself in acres of space.

Thomas passed to Sam Bailey who in turn found Newby just inside the box - he struck the ball well and Martin could only parry the shot, but the rebound did not fall kindly for a Kendal player.

Two minutes later New Mills nearly had a goal out of nothing when Ricky Anane got himself on the end of a hopeful ball forward and went through on goal.

It was a golden opportunity for the visitors, but Anane blazed his shot over the bar.

With just seconds remaining in the first half Kendal gave themselves a two goal cushion when Adam Freeland rose well to head home from a well-weighted Sam Bailey corner.

The second half was relatively uneventful - New Mills, who have managed to conjour-up just one point this season, looked content to lose 2-0, but Kendal were clearly always pushing to extend their lead.

There was a brief glimmer of hope for New Mills when a powerful shot from outside the box appeared to have struck a Kendal defender on the arm, but referee John Mulligan was not interested.

On 62 minutes Kendal made the game safe when Danny Forbes, who was a dominant force in midfield for much of the game, popped-up in the box.

Stuart McDonald floated a free kick towards New Mills' back post, Thomas outjumped his marker and put the ball back across the box where Forbes had the simple task of heading-in from four yards out to make it 3-0.

It was a comprehensive victory for Kendal in a game where they were head and shoulders above their opponents.
