TWO fashion-forward businessmen are hoping to bring something totally new to Kendal's high street when they take-up residency of its pop-up shop.

Stu Pearce, the man behind the 54 Floral clothing company, and Ky Wilson, now a renowned London-based hairdresser, will be using the Finkle Street store from April 4.

Their one week lease will see a collaboration between contemporary fashion and salon-quality hair styling inside a shop which is made available at a subsidised rent by South Lakeland District Council.

The aim is to promote start-up, entrepreneurial businesses around the region.

The pair have obtained a license to serve alcohol, which means local craft beers from Bowness Bay Brewing Co will be available while people shop and wait for a trim.

Both former Queen Katherine School pupils, 26, are hoping their latest venture will be at the forefront of a fashion revolution in Kendal.

"It's a one-stop shop where you can get your hair done and buy an outfit for the weekend," said Ky, whose client base now includes international stars such as Coldplay and Jess Glynn after leaving Kendal's Daniel Gray salon to pursue his own ambitions with The Social, his hairdressing bases in the Lakes and London.

"We're hoping to bring something new, local and exciting to the market. If you're not at the front then you're definitely going to get left behind."

Stu added: "We share the same outlook - we're fashion forward people and we want to create something unique.

"We both moved out of Kendal to follow a dream but this is still where we want to do business - we've not forgotten our roots."

It will be the fourth time Stu has used the pop-up shop, and every time has been 'a huge success'.

He will be exhibiting his new 54 Floral summer range, which includes vests, t-shirts, light-weight jackets and swim shorts.

"There'll be a lot of colour," said Stu, whose brand has a combined Facebook and Instagram following of more than 24,000.

His fashion line has been picked-up by Mr Gee's, which has stores in Kendal, Bowness and Barrow, Kendal-based company Urban Celebrity and an Australian store called Statement, based in Sydney.

"That's what summer's about. It'll brighten-up the shop so it'll look new and fresh. It's celebrating the fact that we're on the verge of summer."

Now that their careers are taking-off, Stu and Ky have a strong message to other young, creative businesspeople in South Lakeland.

Stu said: "You should just go for it. This pop-up shop is a gift for the Lake District - to have something like this is crazy.

"People should seize the opportunity.

"If young people want to come and pick our brains about starting their own business while we're in the shop then they're more than welcome."

Ky added: "You shouldn't be scared of using the shop - it's minimal risk.

"Years ago I never thought I'd be doing this at all and now it's what gets me out of bed in the morning and I'm in the process of opening my own shop in London."
