THE spotlight is to shine upon chaplaincy during a talk by an expert theologian in Kendal on Monday, July 11.

Everybody is welcome to hear Rev Canon Dr Andrew Todd speak at Stricklandgate Methodist Church, from 7.30pm to 9pm.

Dr Todd, who grew up in Cumbria, is director of the Cardiff Centre for Chaplaincy Studies. His talk will offer a picture of chaplaincy today, drawing on the centre's work with chaplains in settings such as prisons, healthcare, the Armed Forces and the Church of England.

The free talk has been organised by Faith and Fire, an independent partnership between some fire and rescue services and faith communities to develop mutual respect.

Buddhist teacher Jacquetta Gomes, of Kendal, who is on the Faith and Fire steering group, is keen for as many interested people to attend the talk as possible. Last year Jacquetta made history as the first ever Buddhist female fire chaplain.
