A NEW chapter is opening for a north Lancashire writer whose new book has made it onto the shelves of the shop he runs.

Billy Howorth, manager of the well-known Carnforth Bookshop, has researched and written an A-Z of Lancaster, to be launched at the Market Street store this Saturday, November 26, from 2pm.

Billy, an archaeologist who lives in Morecambe, is to sign copies and read excerpts from his book, which explores the city's history from a Roman fort on the River Lune, to its rapid expansion in Georgian times when the port figured in the slave trade, to the Victorian industries that made Lancaster famous.

The A-Z is illustrated with photographs from past and present and is filled with tales of the city's people and places. For more, visit www.carnforthbookshop.co.uk
