Vehicle fire closes A6 between Shap and Kendal (Image: File)
THE A6 is closed in both directions near junction 39 of the M6 following a vehicle fire.
There are reports of heavy traffic following the blaze, which Cumbria Fire and Rescue says has now been extinguished.
Firefighters were called at 12:14pm and found a car well alight just outside Shap.
One firefighter wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet and extinguisher to put out the blaze.
