FOUR football fanatics following the FA Cup fortunes of different teams have now raised more than £1,500 for charity.

Craig Campbell, John Wharton and Alan Robinson, all of Kendal, and Holme's Paul Hine, have pledged to go to a game during every round of this year's competition and raise funds for the Bradley Lowery Foundation.

They decided to pick ball number one from the draw of the first preliminary round, and follow the winner of each tie from there.

They started with Penrith in preliminary rounds and as the tournament reached its third round last weekend, they made the 630-mile round trip to see how Wigan fared at Premier League side Bournemouth.

That formula will continue until they reach the Wembley showpiece final in May.

In online donations and bucket appeals at various grounds around the country, they are approaching the £1,600 mark in money raised for the Bradley Lowery Foundation.

Mr Campbell said the group's 'Road to Wembley' had been very enjoyable so far.

"It's gone really well and it has been well received up to now," he said. "The travelling has been fine – tough but worthwhile – and we're having a great time doing it."

The match at Bournemouth ended in a 2-2 draw, meaning the sides face a replay at Wigan's DW Stadium, and the winner will face either Shrewsbury Town or West Ham United in the fourth round.

"I would like to see Wigan against Shrewsbury but I don't think that will happen," added Mr Campbell. "It would be good if we don't have to go back to Bournemouth because it would be nice to go to a different ground every game."

Bradley Lowery was an inspirational six-year-old boy from the North East who suffered from terminal childhood cancer, neuroblastoma. He lost his battle with the cancer in July. Since it was revealed in December 2016 that the condition was terminal, Bradley appeared as mascot for his beloved Sunderland AFC and struck up a bond with striker Jermain Defoe. The foundation assists families in a similar situation to what Bradley's parents found themselves in.
