A SWIMMING pool and spa planned for a family home at Windermere has been approved by planners.
Applicant Graeme Middleton is having a new detached property built at Bracken Dale, Birks Road, near the A592 between Bowness and Newby Bridge. He has now been given consent by the Lake District National Park Authority to add a pool with bar and lounger area for his family's enjoyment.
Members of the development control committee heard Cartmel Fell Parish Council recommended refusal of the pool and Jacuzzi, saying it would overdevelop the site, in the open countryside.
A neighbour also wrote a letter saying the leisure building would be out of keeping.
However, LDNPA planner Emma Johnston advised members the slate-roofed building - 16.5 x 10.5 metres - would not have an adverse impact on its surroundings.
