A NEW six-part relationship drama adapted from a series of novels set around Windermere has been commissioned by ITV.

Deep Water, a female-led ensemble series, was written by Anna Symon and adapted from the Windermere books by critically acclaimed author, Paula Daly.

ITV’s head of drama, Polly Hill, announced the commission, which will focus on the lives of three women, living in and around the surroundings of the Lake District town.

It promises to offer a modern look at family and the pressures people put themselves under as they juggle busy lives.

In striving to do their best for their families the women are capable of making some controversial choices in an attempt to hold everything together and keep their heads above deep water.

The main characters have been described as complex, vibrant women desperately juggling work and home life and coping with the issues raised by modern parenting.

Polly Hill said: “Anna has cleverly woven together two of Paula’s brilliant novels, to create a wonderful modern and layered series.

"It’s about three very different women on their own incredible and often shocking journeys, whose lives connect at the school gates. It’s funny, sexy, truthful and often outrageous, and should have the audience asking what they would do to hold their own family together. I am delighted to be working with Kudos on this great new series for ITV."

Karen Wilson, Diederick Santer and Anna Symon will executive produce the drama. Sue Swift, head of books and adaptations acquired Paula Daly’s books for television production company, Kudos.

Karen Wilson, chief creative officer for Kudos and executive producer said: “We are thrilled to be working with Anna and ITV on bringing these wonderful books to life, and telling stories about modern women in an interesting and beautiful part of rural Britain.”

Deep Water will be filmed in Cumbria in the autumn of 2018 and details of casting and key production personnel appointments will be advised before filming commences.

The series will be distributed internationally by Endemol Shine International.
