A FORMER railway station house in Sedbergh has been transformed into holiday homes that boast eco-credentials.

The Old Station, which was once Sedbergh’s railway station and served passengers on the Ingleton branch line, has been restored into two luxury holiday home.

The three bedroom Westby House and two-bedroom Old Station Cottage are both are available exclusively with cottages.com.

The line, built by Lancaster and Carlisle Railway in 1861 was used to transport both passengers and livestock on the old Gill to Ingleton Line until the rail nationalisation in 1965.

After being privatised, the property became the family home of the last station master until it was bought by its present owners, Dianna Whitfield and her husband, Paul, in 2012.

The couple from Canterbury sympathetically modernised the house ensuring that the exterior of the building remained largely unchanged and preserving some of the original station house features.

In Westby House, which forms the main part of the old station buildings, the 60-foot long platform still remains as a patio for guests to enjoy outstanding views of the Howgills and the Lune Valley.

And the original toilet and waiting area has been transformed into a dining room.

A stone arch built from the railway bridge that once linked the local community to the station lies within the Old Station Cottage.

The modern biomass pellet boiler provides the heating and hot water for the houses and the property has also been fully insulated, making it ideal for those looking for an environmentally friendly holiday.

The Old Station owner Dianna, said: “We lived in the house for four years but decided to move back to Canterbury for our daughter’s education and Paul’s work. We wanted to give people the chance to stay in the house and experience it for themselves, so decided to rent it out as a holiday home. Cumbria is a beautiful location with lots to offer, so we’re sure that guests will have a memorable holiday.”

Westby House and the Old Station Cottage are connected via a utility room and can be rented as one larger let with sole use of the gardens sleeping up to 10.
