AN AWARD-winning food hall is issuing a challenge to all lovers of the Great British banger.

Country Harvest at Ingleton is holding its second Festival of Sausages in June and wants the public to come up with unusual flavour combinations.

The butchery department, headed up by former Young Butcher of the Year George Taylor, will choose half a dozen personalised flavours to make for the two-day festival on June 1/2.

“We can make pretty much make any flavour you like,” said George. “Last year we had more than 15 unusual flavours for our customers to try during the festival but as we are celebrating our 25th anniversary this year we will have 25 different varieties for our customers to try and buy, including six of your suggestions. We’ve already one customer asking for pork, apple and apricot which we plan to try."

The food hall also want volunteers to take part in a sausage tasting event at 4pm on June 1, with the winning banger going on general sale for the rest of the year.

The festival will also include a sausage making challenge, with butchers George and his assistant Chris Langford competing in a head-to-head to see how many bangers they can make in four minutes. The challenge starts at 4pm on June 2 and all are welcome to watch.

“We held our first Festival of Sausages last year and it was such an overwhelming success it took us a bit by surprise,” said Country Harvest owner Mike Clark.

"Our butchers had to arrive at work in the early hours to keep up with demand. And this year we are offering even more free sausage tastings and there will also be some great discounts.
