A 26 STRONG team of firefighters tackled a large fire at a farm in Burneside yesterday (Monday, May 21).

Firefighters were called at 2.57pm to a large quality of tyres and wood which were on fire.

Four fire engines attended the incident, using foam, two main jets and two hose reel jets to tackle the blaze.

Kendal's station manager Sean Hevey said: "We were faced on arrival with a very large scale fire emitting black toxic smoke.

"It was very close to a cattle shed so our priority was to stop it spreading to that."
