To mark the 200th anniversary of The Westmorland Gazette in 2018, we are publishing a photograph from our archives on our website every day this year.

Today's photograph shows the aftermath of the only bomb to fall on Westmorland and make a direct hit during the Second World War.

It fell on a farmhouse at Cooper House, Selside, killing 11 of its 13 occupants in 1941.
