THE Lord Lieutenant of Cumbria Claire Hensman has agreed to serve as patron of the Michelle Jurd Memorial Trust (MJMT).

The MJMT raises money to promote adventurous training and arts based extra-curricular activities for young people, and also gives money to fund adventurous activities for young people in Cumbria.

The MJMT was founded in 2009, following the death of Michelle Jurd, of Grange. Mrs Jurd, who was a mother of two and had previously served as an RAF helicopter navigator, was killed in a car crash on the A590 at Levens in 2009.

The charity was founded by her husband Neil and a group of friends. To date the charity has raised £120,000.
