SET in stunning countryside on the shores of Coniston Water, the Coniston Country Fair is a traditional Lakeland show that attracts 1,000s of visitors and locals alike, taking place on Sunday (July 22, from 11.30am). There is something for everyone, with shows for Fell Foxhounds, Terriers, Beagles and Lurchers. Farming is represented with shows for Herdwick Sheep and Sheepdogs, as well as Cumbrian Walking Sticks. Sports sees competitions of Cumberland & Westmorland Wrestling and a fell race takes place from the show field to the top of Coniston Old Man and back. There's a dry stone walling competition, a craft marquee, trade stands, falconry and pony displays, refreshments, amusements and children's activities.

AND they’re off! Barbecue Monday Raceday at Cartmel Racecourse is on Monday (July 23). And, this traditional, annual event encourages punters to bring their own barbie and cook lunch before racing! As always, there will be a prize for the most stylish picnic or barbecue at the meeting. The first race starts at 2.10pm, the last race at 5.25pm with the gates opening and entertainment starting at 11am. Dogs welcome.

ULVERSTON and North Lonsdale Show is to be held on Wednesday (July 25) at its new venue, Lindal Cote Farm, Lindal-in-Furness. This popular show, previously held at Urswick, attracts hundreds of locals and visitors alike to view the fantastic array of animal classes including sheep, cattle and poultry as well as horses and ponies. Entertainment sees Cyril the Squirrel and his Racing Terriers tearing round the course at breakneck speed, plus Ross and his sheepdogs, and at 3pm the Grand Parade takes place in the main ring. Amid all the animal razzamatazz there’s trade stalls galore, marquees, food and refreshments. All-in-all a fantastic day out for the whole family.

IT IS more than 40 years since ABBA won the Eurovision Song Contest with song Waterloo, and ABBA Mania still prevails. This tribute production features a special concert presentation celebrating the music of ABBA, reviving special memories of when the band ruled the airwaves with songs such as Mamma Mia, Dancing Queen, Super Trouper and many more. THE Dukes Theatre returns to picturesque Williamson Park with a new adaptation of the swash-buckling story of The Three Musketeers. This outdoor, walkabout play sees D’Artagnan (Lucy Parkinson) team up with the ‘all for one and one for all’ Musketeers, Porthos, Athos and Aramis, in a death-defying quest to save the life of a loving queen. The show comes complete with inventive stagecraft, energetic swordplay, and witty dialogue and as the actors move from one fantastic location to another the audience will follow in the footsteps of more than half-a-million people who have been entertained outdoors by the Lancaster theatre since 1987. The Three Musketeers can be enjoyed until August 18.

HEYSHAM Viking Festival takes place on Saturday and Sunday (July 21 & 22) on Main Street and at the cricket club (from 10.30am). Families will experience a living history encampment, parade, battle re-enactment, fairground, weapons display, craft stalls, combat competition, street food and drink. Plus live music will be played in the club on the Saturday evening.
