KIRKBIE Kendal School pupil Billy Blaydes has won the U14 Boys Scottish Junior Open Championship Singles and Doubles in Edinburgh.
It was the last national youth tennis competition before the National Finals in August at Nottingham.
Billy won through a tough first round in the singles, beating international and former GB player Louis Davey from Cornwall 4-6, 6-2, 10-6.
He dominated the next rounds to then meet Daniel Abernethy (Surrey) in the semi finals and won in three sets 7-5, 3-6, 6-3.
Billy then played top seed Roan Jones (Shropshire) in the final, knowing he had lost the last three encounters against him.
After losing the first set 4-6, Billy showed real determination to win the second set 7-5 and then dominated in the third, closing it out at 6-3.
The result was Billy's 1first national singles win and fourth national doubles title this year, with all his doubles wins being achieved with different partners.
In Edinburgh, Billy partnered Jonah Gethin (Cheshire) who trains with Billy at USN Bolton Arena, a newly appointed LTA Regional Performance Centre.
Continuing his winning streak, Billy then competed in the ITF junior international in Edinburgh where he qualified for main draw and won his first round tie, earning his first ITF points at only 14 years of age.
