NETHERFIELD bowed out of the Lancashire Cup after losing by 106 runs to Ormskirk at Parkside Road.

Matt Jackson’s first innings return of 6-22 saw Ormskirk all out for 219 off 44 overs.

However, Tom Hartley’s return of 4-23 saw Netherfield all out in reply for 113 off 31.2 overs.

Ormskirk made a strong start as Ian Robinson and Andrew Baybutt posted an opening stand of 34.

Netherfield made the breakthrough when Robinson picked out Jack Boyle off the bowling of Matt Jackson.

Ormskirk, undeterred by the dismissal, surged ahead onto 100 before Andrew Baybutt was bowled by Boyle for 43.

Netherfield gained further ground when Boyle dismissed Hartley for 11, before Ormskirk regained control, reaching 191.

Netherfield changed the momentum of the first innings after Alex Rankin who top scored with 76 fell to a good delivery by Josh Dixon.

From that point, Jackson ripped through the lower order with figures of 6-22, picking up the wickets of Luke Platt, Jonathan Glayser, Gary Knight and Nicky Caunce while Ormskirk collapsed onto 206-8.

Dixon collected his second wicket when Alex Mason was stumped by Lewis Edge, before Jackson bowled Ryan Maddocks for his sixth wicket.

Netherfield started steadily with Ben Barrow and Josh Dixon posting a first wicket stand of 33.

Ormskirk broke through when Ryan Maddock clean bowled the pair of them with Netherfield falling into trouble on 43-2.

Hartley claimed the crucial wicket of Huck who fell to a low catch by Ryan Maddock, and Netherfield were under further pressure when Boyle was run out before Lewis Edge was caught behind by Gary Knight.

Ormskirk cleaned up the lower order with ease

as Netherfield were bowled out for 113 from 31.2 overs, falling 79 runs of the target they had been set by their visitors who progress to the semi-final.
