PHILIP Ridley of Colton is right about the Dambusters (Letters, August 9, 'Dambusters?')
We lived in Ambleside in the 50s and the modified Avro Lancasters were overhead for the filming for a period of several days, specifically, it was believed at the time, for the Dambusters film.
Seeing the film later I thought it was possible to recognise the northern end of the lake and bits of the Wray Castle shore.
The Windermere footage was additional, however, with the main sequences shot in the Hope Valley in Derbyshire.
