FRIENDS of the Lake District has described six new homes planned for Heversham village as "an unacceptable intrusion into open countryside".
Cumbria County Council is seeking consent for two affordable houses and four open-market dwellings on 0.48 hectares of grazing land off Park House Drive.
Twenty parking spaces are also proposed.
The plot of land was acquired by CCC as the site of a new primary school but is no longer required, according to plans lodged with South Lakeland District Council.
Heversham St Peter's CE Primary School closed in summer 2017.
Planning documents state the properties would supply "much-needed" affordable housing in Heversham. However, Friends of the Lake District has highlighted its concerns about "creeping development".
