REPAIRS to a Georgian folly overlooking Morecambe Bay are being planned by its owner and caretaker, Holker Estates Ltd.

The roof-less 19th century tower, known as Kirkhead summer house, is described as a "significant and treasured landmark" in planning documents.

The folly has a "charming" situation overlooking the bay from its rocky knoll, and a "romantic" appearance thanks to its Gothic arched windows and crenellated parapet, state the plans.

A rotting timber lintel would be replaced, walls repointed where necessary, and the exposed tops of walls capped with lead, to protect the Grade II-listed summer house and "slow" its decay.

Consent is being sought from South Lakeland District Council.
