AN attempted distraction burglary at the home of an 81-year-old Ulverston woman was foiled when she confronted him upstairs after he had lured her outside by calling to say there was a fire in the rear of her street.

Police say the victim was unharmed and nothing was taken from the property in Burlington Street during the incident which happened at around 3pm on Monday September 10.The suspect is described as white, aged between 50 to 60, five foot 10 inches tall, of medium build with muscular arms. He was wearing a white t-shirt, red and white shorts and spoke with a local accent.

Residents and family members are advised to be diligent around cold calling or uninvited visitors. Anyone with relevant information regarding this incident is asked to contact Cumbria Police on 101 or via Crimestoppers.
