A statement to Westmorland County Council showed that the quantity of land under corn this year in the county is double that under similar crops in 1914 and a little more - 29,000 acres instead of 14,000.
50 YEARS AGO - 1968
The Jolly Anglers Inn, Burneside, together with two adjoining cottages, brought £19,000 when offered for sale by auction on Tuesday by Mr Alan S Thompson. The property was knocked down to Messrs Matthew Brown and Co Ltd, Lion Brewery of Blackburn, after some keen bidding.
25 YEARS AGO - 1993
Massive opposition is mounting over National Trust proposals to ‘privatise’ the Langdale Valley campsite by leasing it to the Camping and Caravanning Club.
