HIT-BAND the Kaiser Chiefs is to be the latest big name to perform in Cumbria.

The "I predict a Riot" and "Ruby" stars are to return to the Sands Centre in Carlisle on January 29, 2019.

Carlisle is among 21 locations the band will visit during January and February of next year.

The band last appeared at the Sands in 2013, as they stopped off on their Souvenir Tour.

They also appeared in the 2015 instalment of Kendal Calling, in a line-up described as the festival's best ever by many.

The 2019 tour, which is yet to be given a name, will also see performances in Newcastle, Glasgow and Manchester for the band.

Posted on the Sands Centre's official Twitter page, it was tweeted: "The @KaiserChiefs visit #Carlisle on Tuesday 29 January 2019."

The post was in reference to an earlier tweet by the band themselves, that read: "We're incredibly excited to announce we're heading out on a full UK tour!"

Made up of five members, the band shot to fame in 2004 with their hit "I Predict a Riot", which they released in November of that year.

The song peaked at ninth in the UK official charts, after it was re-released the following year.

UK number 1 hit "Ruby" was released in 2007, selling more than 461,000 copies.

Originally formed under the name of Parva in 2000, they changed to their current name later that year.

Their latest UK top 40 single, "Coming Home", peaked at 31 in the charts in 2014.

The 2019 tour will be the band's eighth, following tours in 2006, 2007, 2009, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2017.
