An event which could see 20 or more iconic Jaguar E Types pass through Cumbria tomorrow (Wednesday September 19) to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK, has won the support of notable E-type owners including musician Jools Holland and Formula One boss Ross Brawn.

The Round Britain Coastal Drive sees owners of the classic vehicles make their way around the country with the aim of topping 2016’s £62,000 total for the charity; as well as a further £70,000 during a Jaguar XK event in 2017.

Among the stops will be the famous Lakeland Motor Museum at Backbarrow on the afternoon of Wednesday September 19 – one of 19 daily stages covering almost 4,000 miles. It will also stop off at Cromer in Norfolk – the birthplace of E-type designer Malcolm Sayer.

The massive road trip will be led by Jaguar E Type club founder Philip Porter, who says, “This event was a wonderful way to see England, Wales and Scotland and to sample places one has heard of but never been to. Every day had its own character and special quality.”

Mr Porter completed the first drive in 2016 shortly after recovering from prostate cancer himself. He added, “Everywhere we have gone, round the coast of Great Britain, we have been raising awareness direct with the public and through the media. People have been amazingly generous and we have had a lot of fun. Everyone wins!”

The event was flagged away from its starting point at Pendine Sands, Carmarthenshire, on September 17 by land speed record-breaker Don Wales. Don says, “I am delighted to be part of this fabulous event and honoured to be flagging-off the entrants from Pendine Sands, where my grandfather set his first World Land Speed Record. I was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer and have now been successfully treated. We need to get more men talking about this horrible disease. Events like this are vital as they help to raise awareness and valuable funds to stop prostate cancer being a killer.”
