THE FAMILY of a young man killed by one punch in Blackburn town centre attended a hospital event to raise awareness of organ donation.

Adam Rogers, from Blackburn, had been on a night out in 2009 when William Kingsley Upton, 17, from Rishton, hit him, causing him to fall and hit his head.

Upton was sentenced to four years in jail, but served two years and spent the rest on licence.

Dave and Pat Rogers’ 24-year-old son had expressed his wish to be a donor by ticking the box on his driving licence application at just 18 years old.

Adam’s heart, lungs, liver, kidneys and pancreas helped five other people – all male aged six to 63.

And his family, who have campaigned to highlight the need for willing donors gathered at an event at Royal Blackburn Hospital during Organ Donation Week for the grand reveal of an organ donation plaque.

The plaque was specially designed by the pupils of Witton Park Academy.

The plaque design, which shows the silhouette of two people holding a heart with the quote, ‘have a heart, save a life’ has been put up near the main entrance of the hospital.

It hopes to encourage conversations about organ donation.
