Essential road repairs and maintenance work is to be carried out on the A65 West of Kirkby Lonsdale next month.

Cumbria County Council is investing £200,000 on a road resurfacing scheme covering a 2km-long section of the A65 between Spital Farm and Jubilee Lane, Lupton.

Resurfacing will start on Monday 1 October and is scheduled to last until Friday 12 October, subject to weather conditions. This work will be carried out overnight to minimise disruption to the travelling public.

To enable the resurfacing scheme to be safely carried out, it will be necessary to temporarily close this section of the A65. As a result the road will be closed from 7pm and reopen by 5am each day during this period.

Advance warning signs are currently in place and there are also advisory signs confirming that all local businesses will be open as normal during the resurfacing scheme.

All vehicles over 7.5 tonnes will be asked to use the A683 to Lancaster. All smaller vehicles can divert via Sedbergh.

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Cllr Keith Little, Cumbria County Council Cabinet member for Highways, said: “This essential road maintenance work will replace a worn-out section of the A65 with a new, hard-wearing road surface, making journeys much smoother for drivers. This new surfacing means we won’t need to do patching or temporary repairs going forward, so there will be far less disruption to road users in future.

“We recognise the importance of the A65 as a main route into the county and the resurfacing works will be done overnight when traffic volumes are lower, to minimise the impact. There will inevitably be some disruption during this period and we apologise for any inconvenience. We would ask drivers to plan ahead and allow extra time for journeys.”
