NOTICES have recently been posted on public footpaths surrounding Dean Gibson School in Kendal, indicating that a bylaw is soon to be passed by South Lakeland District Council, banning all dogs from these paths.

Are we slowly sleepwalking into some dictatorship with the council? Who are they to totally ban a person from walking a well-behaved dog on a lead, with pockets full of doggy bags, along footpaths that have been there for donkey's years?

We saw their arrogance first hand when they grabbed back the free car parking land on New Road but this takes the biscuit.

They have no right to ban dog owners from walking on public paths. If it is a dog fouling issue then post notices and pay for enforcement officers to enforce.

If it is a safety issue about dogs running wild near a junior school then pass a bylaw so that dogs must be on leads, but it is not right to attempt to bring in a bylaw to completely ban dogs from large areas of footpath between the Vicarage Park and Collinfield housing estates.
