NOMINATIONS are wanted now for an annual awards ceremony that recognises Cumbria's best sporting talent.

Active Cumbria is looking to celebrate people who have excelled in sport around the county ā€“ from golf to swimming and all points in between ā€“ both on and off the field.

And the prestigious Cumbria Sports Awards ceremony will not only reward local sporting talent but also highlight the vast number of coaches and volunteers who make grass roots sport accessible across the county.

The event at The Low Wood Bay Hotel, Ambleside, on November 30, will welcome former Olympian Jenny Meadows as its host speaker.

The 800-metre runner will share her story and talk about the highs and lows of her athletics career in a question-and-answer session with BBC Radio Cumbria's Mike Zeller.

"Iā€™m really looking forward to attending the awards," she said.

"The range of awards recognises so many local people who play a major role in sport and physical activity and I am very much looking forward to meeting them."

Last year the county's top sporting honour of 'Cumbria Sports Personality Of The Year' went to athlete Nick Miller, the three times British hammer throw champion.

But awards will not only be given out to professional sport people but also to those who go over and beyond in the world of sport.

Gary Mckee who won the 'Be Inspired Award' lat year, ran 100 consecutive marathons in 100 days and inspired many people to run with him as part of a mammoth fundraising efforts for Macmillan Cancer Care.

As well as rewarding sporting talent, the ceremony showcases work that has been done to develop facilities and participation in sport.

Nominations are now live on www.activecumbria.org/cumbriasportsawards. Nomination will close on October 19.
