The Westmorland Gazette’s Give Them A Break campaign aims to raise £20,000 to give carers a break and this week it received the backing of Kendal Rugby Club, as CELIA POWELL finds out...

THERE is full backing from Kendal Rugby Club as they rally to support the Gazette’s Give Them A Break campaign.

The campaign aims to pay for up to 200 carers - and in some cases the cared for person - to have a one-night break at a local hotel.
Steve Whitehead, director of KURFC, is all too happy for the club to support the campaign.

“We want to try to provide a much-needed boost for those who are in need of a well-earned rest,” he said.
“I think we all know someone who has or does care for someone else and that can be a tremendous commitment. If we can help give people respite by supporting this campaign then we are fully behind it.”

As well as providing a break for the carers, the campaign is also seeking to encourage people to volunteer as counsellors or as sitters so that it could allow some carers to have a three hour break each month.

KURFC currently supports a number of locally important projects but between now and the Christmas period at Mintbridge the club will raise the campaign’s awareness as well as undertaking a number of shared fund raising activities and venue support.
