A FULLY marshalled, largely off-road pleasure ride for owners of horses and ponies is to take place on Sunday, October, 14, from Westmorland County Showground to raise money for Rosemere Cancer Foundation.

Some of the proceeds will also be split between the event’s organisers - the Cumbria Bridleways Society and the North Lancashire Bridleways Society - to help open up more off road riding routes.

As well as the 12-mile pleasure ride, which starts at 10am, there will also a lead rein course that follows the ash footpaths around the showground, starting at 11am.

Eve Hall, of North Lancashire Bridleways Society, said: “Hopefully good weather will encourage a good turn out as this is the first time we have organised a ride to raise money for Rosemere Cancer Foundation.

“The route is primarily over bridleways and quiet lanes but we have the support of a number of farmers who are opening up their fields for us. It is marshalled so there are volunteers to help at road crossings and to take care of opening and closing gates.”

Entry to the pleasure ride is £20, and £15 for the lead rein course. To enter, email klnjdavison@btopenworld.com or visit www.cumbriabridlewayssociety.org

All finishers will be rewarded with a rosette, and refreshments will be on sale at the Rosemere marquee.
