I WAS very interested in the report 'Enormous feline on the prowl in village' (Gazette, September 20).
I have photographs, taken in the late 1980s, of huge feline footprints taken in West Sussex, where I used to live. I sent these off to The British Association for Shooting and Conservation (as it was in those days) and received a very informative reply from the Director, Firearms and External Services.
He is the very experienced man who was asked to investigate 'The Beast of Exmoor'.
his considered response to my photographs was that the animal that made the footprints was either a puma or a leopard.
Hence, I have every confidence that the many sightings written about in your paper, (and which I collect as they appear) are indeed of a cougar, puma or leopard.
