SUGARY drinks have been completely removed from sale at hospitals across Morecambe Bay, said Dr David Walker, medical director of the University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The trust began phasing out high-sugar beverages from its restaurants, coffee shops and vending machines in 2016.
Dr Walker said: "We now sell only “diet” or no-sugar drinks in our premises. As an NHS organisation, I believe we should act as role models wherever we can for our local populations.
“Removing high-sugar soft drinks from being on sale in our hospitals is just the start, and I hope other health and care organisations follow our lead. We aren’t saying you can’t treat yourselves, but there does need to be a balance.”
