MAY I thank your readers for the excellent response I received from a previous letter requesting assistance from relatives of the 'Milnthorpe Lads' who 'fell' in the First World War.

Our intention is that at a ceremony at 2.30pm on Armistice Day, Sunday, November 11, relatives will lay a wreath at the war memorial on the village green as the names of the fallen are read out.

Thanks to the efforts of Sheila Ashburner, of the Royal British Legion, assisted by myself and members of Milnthorpe Parish Council, we now know that 18 representatives of the 22 Milnthorpe men who died will be present.

So far we have not been able to contact relatives of the following, some of whom we believe were related to each other. They are Ralph Wilkinson, Jack Wilkinson and Fred Wilkinson, Thomas G. Wilson and Charles Wilson and Edward Parker and John Parker.

Accordingly I would be very grateful if any relatives could contact myself at The Smithy, Ackenthwaite or Mrs Ashburner at 44 Firs Road, Milnthorpe or ring 015395 62727.

If we get a 100 per cent representation this may well be a distinctive way of celebrating the catastrophic losses sustained by our village.
