Fire engines from South Lakeland were called to the scene in response to a building fire in Milnthorpe. 

On October 17, at approximately 2:35pm two fire engines from Kendal and Milnthorpe attended to a kitchen fire in Milnthorpe. 

It was a cooking related incident and the fire was contained in the kitchen but smoke damage had spread across the ground floor.

The fire service used two breathing apparatus and one hose reel to extinguish the fire and remained in attendance for approximately 90 minutes.

Cumbria Fire service would like to urge the public to make sure that there are smoke detectors on every floor of the house and that they are checked regularly.
