CONSTRUCTION is "booming" in the North West, according to new government figures.

Overall, building of new homes and infrastructure has risen by 15 per cent across the region, ten times the national average.

According to the Office of National Statistics, the total value of construction in June, July and August this year was more than £4.6 billion - up more than £600 million when compared to the same three months a year ago.

The value of construction work on new housing in the North West soared by £386 million and the value of new infrastructure projects also rose.

Northern Powerhouse minister Jake Berry MP said: "Anyone visiting the North West can see the huge number of construction projects under way and these figures show just how valuable they are.

“This construction boom is helping build new homes, new infrastructure and a stronger economy in the region.”
