A WOMAN and three children had to be rescued by Coastguard and Lifeboat teams when they got trapped in mud and quicksand.

The family were found in the vicinity of the River Keer estuary near Warton on Saturday October, 20 at 3:30pm when they were trapped in the mud.

Morecambe's RNLI volunteer lifeboat crew were working with Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service to try and free them. Having managed to rescue the children the inshore rescue hovercraft was quickly launched and proceeded to the scene where they assisted in digging the woman out of the mud before transporting her to shore and into the care of a waiting ambulance crew.

Morecambe's Lifeboat team were called out again, just after 9pm, that evening following reports of two people in the water off the Sandylands area of Morecambe. But, they were stood down prior to launching, after it was confirmed that the reported casualties were now safe.
