100 YEARS AGO – 1918
The Sedbergh influenza epidemic has had many victims during the last fortnight among people of all ages, but more especially among the children. In consequence of which day schools and Sunday schools have been closed for the time being.
50 YEARS AGO – 1968
Estimates for additional street lamps were considered at a meeting of Holme Parish Council on Monday. Approval is sought for the erection of four extra lamps. It was also decided to investigate street lighting in the morning during winter.
25 YEARS AGO – 1993
A guest staying at The Swan Hotel, Newby Bridge, was in a state of shock yesterday morning after claiming she had seen a ghost in her room. She said that she had not believed in ghosts.
