A REMEMBRANCE Trail following in the footsteps of Kendal's fallen servicemen has been launched for the Armistice centenary.

Local researcher David Shackleton has plotted onto a map the addresses of the 316 men named on Kendal War Memorial.

A walking trail in memory of their sacrifice, along with those from Oxenholme village, has now been created by Kendal library with support from Kendal Town Council and the Royal British Legion.

The route takes people on a tour of where the soldiers lived before going off to war, with information posters located at each street recording the names of the men who once lived there.

The guide can be bought from Kendal library, with all proceeds going to the Royal British Legion. You can also download it from www.cumbria.gov.uk/libraries

Other events taking place to mark the Armistice centenary include a discussion by former archivist David Bowcock on the Border Regiment on Friday, November 9 at Kendal Library; and a talk by author Isobel Stirk about the poets of the First World War on Monday, November 12 at Kirkby Lonsdale library.

Meanwhile, Ulverston library is to host a genealogy coffee morning on Wednesday, November 7 from 10am, to help people research their First World War ancestors.
